The Family Empowerment Scholarship (FES) Program is one of Florida’s greatest victories for low-income and working-class families, and it is the first of its kind to extend support to middle-income families. Following the 2019 Legislative Session, Governor Ron DeSantis signed SB 7070, which creates the FES Program and provides 18,000 students life-changing education opportunities for academic and career success.

The name honors Florida Senate President Andy Gardiner, who led the legislative effort to create the program, and his family. The Gardiner Scholarship is different than other state scholarships in that it allows parents to personalize the education of their children with unique abilities by directing money toward a combination of programs and approved providers. These include schools, therapists, specialists, curriculum, technology – even a college savings account.

In 2018, the Florida Legislature created the Hope Scholarship Program to give public school children in Florida relief from bullying and violence. The scholarship gives parents the opportunity to transfer their child to another K-12 public school with available capacity within the school district, receive a scholarship to transport the student to a public school in another school district, or to request a scholarship for the student to attend an eligible private school.

The Florida Tax Credit Scholarship (FTC) was created to help alleviate the enormous educational challenges faced by children in Florida who live near poverty. The program provides Tax Credit Scholarships to students in K-12 who come from low-income families. This scholarship allows the student to consider a private school when they might not otherwise have the opportunity.
